Artist Statement

Portraiture has a long history of generating connections with viewers, as if the portraits were real people. My work focuses on using portraiture as a way to break down barriers of social, economic, racial, and cultural divides by creating connections between these different classes. These paintings and drawings invite conversation between the viewer and the models, who may be of completely different backgrounds; by having these conversations with the work, it allows for a non-confrontational exploration into groups of people that may otherwise have never crossed paths.
